BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcat women rallied but fell short against the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 81-77.

Courtney Creed led the Bearcats with 20 points. Rachel Graves had 18 and Courtney Heady added 10 points. Jasmine Sanford led the ‘Cats with 8 rebounds. LaToya Wright led UNO (14-10, 10-8 MIAA) with 24 points.

The Bearcats used a 10-0 run to rally and tie the game at 51 with 10 minutes left in the second half but could never grab the lead. Nebraska-Omaha would extend the lead back to 72-60 with 3:42 left before SBU would quickly cut it to five points.

“We never gave up. We had excellent effort tonight,” said head coach J.C. Carter. “We had too many turnovers in the first half which got us in a hole. We didn’t shoot free throws well, but our defense was great.”

SBU (7-18, 4-14 MIAA) will travel to Maryville on Wednesday night to take on the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. The Bearcats last win came against the green Bearcats by a score of 82-79 on January 17 in Bolivar. The SBU Bearcats remained tied with Northwest Missouri for ninth, one game behind Missouri Western for the eighth and final MIAA Tournament spot. SBU hosts Missouri Western next Saturday.
