RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -- The baseball Bearcats fall to 0-4 on the season, after a close loss to Arkansas Tech, 6-5

SBU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, and kept the game tied at 5-5 after three innings, but a late run by the Wonder Boys in the seventh inning gave the Bearcats their second loss in the last at-bat of the early season.

"We competed well today; we'd hit the ball pretty hard, but it was right at people," commented coach Sam Berg after the game.

Third baseman Justin Barnhart led the offense, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, two RBI, and three stolen bases. Jason Asher also had a good day from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3, with a run and a stolen base.

The game was still tied at five in the bottom of the seventh inning, when ATU's Austin Gwatney slapped a single to left field. Nick Shoptaw stepped up next, and with the hit & run on, hit a double down the left field line, scoring Gwatney.

Game two of the doubleheader was wiped due to rain and lightning.

SBU will make its home debut Saturday, when they host the Rockhurst Hawks, in a 7-inning doubleheader. First pitch is at 2:00 pm.
