BOLIVAR, Mo. - The SBU women’s basketball defeated Lincoln, 85-59, in a non-conference game in Bolivar.
The Bearcats were led by Courtney Creed on the offensive end. Creed, the leading scorer in the MIAA, scored a career-high 25 points on 8 of 13 from the field, which included 3 of 6 from long range and a perfect 6 of 6 from the line.
"The two things that we liked today were the way we out-rebounded our opponent and getting to the free-throw line 25 times," said SBU’s head coach, JC Carter. "We’ve been trying to work on getting to the basket more aggressively, and get to the line more, so that was nice to see. We played unselfishly today, which was indicated in the 25 assists. One thing we’re going to work on after today is to play consistently for 40 minutes, and not get caught in the trap of watching the scoreboard. I liked our mental approach for the most part. We came out and played loose, but focused."
The Bearcats began the game with a 17-1 run, and never trailed. Creed scored 10 of the first 14 purple points of the contest.
The Bearcats shot 41.3% from the field to Lincoln’s 47.2%. The Bearcats shot 40.7% from long range, while Lincoln shot 0-6.
The Bearcats were 22-25 from the stripe (88.0%) to Lincoln’s 64.3%.
The win gives the Bearcats an overall 2-4 record on the season.
SBU travels to Arkadelphia, Ark. on Monday to face Ouachita Baptist. Game time is 6:00 and will be broadcast by Josh Thompson on KBFL 99.9 FM.
