BOLIVAR, Mo. – The SBU women lost their home opener to Central Missouri, 86-66.

SBU’s Courtney Creed scored 23 points to lead the Bearcats. Erica Smith logged a career-high of 14 points. Rachel Graves led the team in rebounds, with 7.

The Bearcats hit 28 of their 75 attempts from the field (37.3%) and 4 of their 17 attempts from long range (23.5%).

The Bearcats fell behind by 16 in the first half, but made a run at Central, getting to within 4 points with 15:30 (50-54) remaining in the contest.

“First of all, Central is a very good, physical team,” said SBU’s head coach, JC Carter. “We needed to attack the basket more, and finish the tough plays on both ends of the court, especially when our 3’s weren’t dropping for us. Courtney [Creed] played well for us tonight. It’s good to see her step up and provide some senior leadership.”

SBU falls to 1-4 on the season, and 0-1 in the MIAA. They play a non-conference game on Saturday at home against Lincoln with a 1:00 PM tipoff.
