#7 Bearcats in Rockhurst Tournament

Bolivar, Mo. -- The #7 SBU Bearcats will play Rockhurst (1-2) and Park (4-6) on Friday and Saturday in the Rockhurst Classic in Kansas City over the Thanksgiving Break.

This week, the Bearcats moved up in the NABC national poll from #12 to #7, based on their three wins against Utah, Missouri Baptist, and #21 Drury.

Rockhurst leads the all-time series against SBU, 30-20. The Bearcats won the last contest, 87-74, in Bolivar. SBU's Matt Rogers scored 24 points in the game. D'Ante Harris scored 17 and grabbed 13 rebounds. Nick Kovacebich scored 16. The last time SBU visited Rockhurst's floor,  during the 2006-07 season, the Hawks beat the Bearcats 79-53 by shooting a sizzling 59% from long range. SBU never led in the contest.

Friday's game will be Rockhurst's 4th straight against an MIAA opponent. The Hawks defeated Missouri Western, 73-72, lost to Northwest Missouri, 85-66, and lost to Central Missouri, 82-62, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Tuesday. Their offense is led by Aaron Hill, who averages 22.7 points per game. Hill is shooting a very accurate 48.1% from long range.

Saturday, the Bearcats face Park, with whom SBU holds an 8-1 all-time advantage. These teams last met in the 2006-07 season, which ended in a 97-85 Bearcat victory. Matt Rogers had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Park is 4-6 on the season, coming off a win at home against William Jewell, 88-71. Their leading scorer is Jon Meriweather, who is averaging 20.7 points through the Pirate's first 10 games.

The Bearcats, who have averaged 92 points through their first three games, have five players averaging in double figures. D'Ante Harris, SBU's leading scorer, has 16.0 ppg. Other Bearcat leaders are Matt Rogers (15.0 ppg), Brandon Burgette (11.3 ppg), Tomas Brock (10.3 ppg), and Nick Kovacevich (10.0 ppg). Rogers is the leading rebounder (7.0 rpg) and blocker (11 total). Kovacevich leads the team in assists, with 15 this season.

SBU has out-scored their opponents 138-103 in the first half, and 138-123 in the second half.

The Bearcats have shot 42.4% from the three point line this season, while holding their opponents to 34.7% from the same distance. From the field at large, SBU has drilled 42.4% of their shots, while defending at a 40.8% rate.

The Bearcats have been at a slight disadvantage on the boards, behind their opponents 109 to 119. SBU has a positive turnover margin of 3.7 against their opponents.
