QUINCY, Ill. - The SBU Bearcats were beaten by Quincy, 100-84, to even SBU's record at 1-1.
Courtney Creed scored 21 to pace the Bearcat scoring attack. Creed hit 4 of 6 from behind the three point line. Cortney Shewmaker added 18 points. Courtney Heady dropped in 4 treys and totaled 14 points. Rachel Graves rebounded 8.
"Quincy is a very talented team," said SBU’s head coach, JC Carter. "We knew that coming in. But with every loss, you have to put it behind you and learn from it. There are things we need to work on, especially on the defensive end. The bottom line is that we’re going to have to get more disciplined. We noticed that especially when we got tired, fatigue set in, and the tendency is to do the things that seem natural, but are not necessarily good for the team. Today’s game will be a great learning tool for our trip to San Antonio, where we will play two very good teams."
The Bearcats shot 18 of 19 from the free throw line. They shot 42.9% from the field and 38.7% from long range.
SBU held a 44-43 halftime lead, but the Bearcats were outscored 57-40 in the second half.
The loss drops SBU to 1-1 on the season.
