BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The #12 SBU Bearcats will put their 17-game winning streak on the line as they host the #18 Drury Panthers on Saturday in the Bearcats' third game of the season.
"We'll have two quality programs here on Saturday," said SBU's head coach, Jeff Guiot. "It's one of our best non-conference games of the year. We feel that it's healthy for us to play a team of this caliber early in the season. It's a chance for us to get better. It's also a good chance for fans to come out and see one of the best college basketball environments in the area, year in and year out."
Drury, like SBU, is 2-0 this season. The Panthers have defeated Upper Iowa (81-67) and St. Gregory's (86-70). Drury holds a 27-19 advantage in the all-time series against the Bearcats. Drury has taken the last two from SBU, including last year's season-opening 92-82 contest in Springfield. Before the last two losses to the Panthers, SBU was 4-1 against Drury during 2001-06.
SBU is shooting 48.3% from the three-point line, which is over 25 percentage points higher than Drury's 22.6% rate.
SBU's leading scorer is D'Ante Harris, with 17 points per game. He is followed by Matt Rogers' 14.5 points per contest. The Bearcats have been rebounding by committee. Nick Kovacevich and Rogers have averaged six rebounds through the first two games. D'Ante Harris has averaged 5.5 rebounds. Rogers has 6 blocks (3.0 average) this season. Tomas Brock has recorded a team-leading 8 assists (4.0 average).
Saturday's game can be heard on KBFL, 99.9 FM.
