BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Bearcats have two important MIAA road games this weekend, against Central Missouri and Washburn. The Bearcats stand at #3 in the tough MIAA, but (very surprisingly) are unranked in the NCAA’s South Central Region. SBU has beaten and tied Truman, ranked #1 in the region; beaten Washburn, ranked #3 in the region, but SBU still hasn’t been among the region’s top ten teams. The Bearcats are #4 in the NSCAA poll (released today) ahead of both Truman and Washburn.
This week gives the Bearcats an opportunity to convince the members of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee that their poll needs to be drastically reorganized.
"We are in an excellent spot," said SBU’s head coach, Benjamin Wade. "We’re getting ready to begin play in the second-to-last week in October, and we’re near the very top of the MIAA. We are in control of our destiny. If we forget about polls and rankings, and take care of business against Central and Washburn, it will be impossible to ignore us. It’s important for us to stay focused, go out there, and do our job."
Game Notes
"I’m very happy with our team right now," continued Wade. "Despite where we stand in the region, I assure you we’re the team that nobody really wants to play right now."
Yesterday, SBU’s Johanna Olsson was named as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for Women’s Soccer
