SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The SBU Bearcats defeated the Drury Panthers, 15-13 in the fifth set, to win their 9th game of the season.

SBU’s Ashley Jergensmeyer led all players with 16 kills, hitting .353. Rachel Sawyer added 14 kills. Brianna Wallace recorded 51 assists. Kinsey Palmer had 26 digs.

The Bearcats dropped set #1, 19-25, but came back to win sets #2 and #3, 25-21 and 25-22. Drury won set #4 (21-25) to force a fifth set, which the Bearcats won, 15-13.

In the fifth set, SBU held a 9-3 advantage, but watch Drury storm back to tie the set at 10, 11, 12, and 13, before the Bearcats grabbed the final two points for the win.

“I was proud of the way we stayed aggressive tonight,” said SBU’s head coach, Kelly Richardson. “There were a couple of key moments where we could have lost our aggressiveness, but we didn’t. More than anything, this was a big mental win for our team and this program. We had a lead in the fifth set, and when they came back to get it to 13-13, we were able to finish. I’m very happy and proud of our team.”

The win evens SBU’s record at 9-9. Tonight’s 9th win ensured a better record than last season’s 8-24 mark.
