JOPLIN, Mo. -- The SBU men and women’s cross country team travelled to Joplin, MO for the 20th annual Missouri Southern State University Stampede.  This meet attracts over 2,500 collegiate and high school runners from over 100 different college and high school teams.  The men’s race featured three nationally ranked programs that proved their rankings (Harding – 3rd, Drury – 18th, MSSU – 14th) while the women’s race also featured three nationally ranked teams (MSSU – 9th, Harding, 12th, Pitt State 17th).

The SBU women came out with a 6th place finish in the 34 team race while the men finished 5th in the 25 team field.  Coach McElhaney, “I felt like today we made progress towards our team goals by running aggressive and having confidence in each other.  I think both of our teams have only scratched the surface of our capabilities and if we can pull together we can experience that.  We had some great performances in Courtney Ayers and Chelsea Strahm, not to mention Shawn Etzenhouser and Michael McCampbell on the men’s side.  Overall, we ran strong after a tough week of workouts and I am proud of them and looking forward to our upcoming races.”
