KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- SBU's Nicola Cousins has been named as the MIAA Athlete of the Week for women's soccer.

Cousins, a 5-foot-6 freshman from Cardiff, Wales, logged 11 points in the Bearcats' first two MIAA matches -- both victories -- last week.

She had a part in each goal during SBU's 3-0 win at Emporia State Thursday (Sept. 11). Cousins assisted on the first and third goals, scored by Rhiane Mitchell, scoring the second herself via a feed from Jayme Ross in the 72nd minute.

In a 6-1 win at Missouri Southern Saturday (Sept. 13), Cousins logged a hat trick, scoring in the 60th, 67th and 75th minute of the match. Her first marker extended SBU's lead to 2-0, shortly before the Lions would score their only goal.

Cousins, the MIAA leader with 2.33 assists per game, is a graduate of Whitechurch High School.
