BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Bearcats began practice this week at Plaster Stadium. Keith Allen, SBU's head coach, spoke of his team's first scrimmage, which took place on Monday night, August 12.

"We saw some good things and we saw some things that we need to improve. What was real exciting is that we looked at last year's first scrimmage and we are alot farther along now than we were then. Just like from Smokey and the Bandit, to paraphrase Jerry Reed, 'East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', we're gonna do what they say can't be done. We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.'"

The Bearcats will scrimmage again on Friday, August 15, at 6:30 p.m. Joining them at Plaster Stadium will be the Bolivar High School team, who will alternate series with SBU.
