KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The SBU men's tennis team had first-team selections in the top five singles flights as well as all three doubles flights on the 2008 All-MIAA men's tennis team.
All five singles players honored from SBU (12-4, 3-1 MIAA) were unanimous selections, as well as the top two doubles pairs.
Sophomore Alex Kacamakis repeated at No. 1 singles, earned recognition at No. 2 doubles with fellow sophomore Hungarian national, Marton Zsiga, and was the unanimous choice as the conference's Most Valuable Player.
Kacamakis is 13-3 in No. 1 singles, finishing 3-1 in conference play, while he and Zsiga have posted an 11-5 mark at No. 2 doubles -- including 4-0 in MIAA action.
Zsiga was the unanimous choice at No. 2, posting a 6-1 record at that flight and going 4-0 in the MIAA. He had an overall singles mark of 12-3 in duals.
Junior Emilio El Alabi earned unanimous selection at No. 3 singles and was joined by senior teammate Daniel Prerad as the consensus choice at No. 1 doubles.
El Alabi was a perfect 8-0 at No. 3 and 4-0 in conference play. The native of Argentina posted a 13-3 dual match singles mark. He and Prerad were 11-5 in No. 1 doubles, with a 3-1 mark against MIAA duos.
Prerad, an Australian and the only senior on the Bearcats' squad, was 9-1 at No. 5 singles and 3-1 in the conference to get unanimous recognition. He tallied an overall singles mark of 11-3, and scored the deciding victory in the MIAA Tournament championship match for SBU against Washburn.
Junior Agustin Mollar rounds out the unanimous singles selections, as he was 9-1 at No. 4 while winning all four of his conference matchups. He and sophomore Micah AuBuchon shared first-team honors at No. 3 doubles.
SBU's head coach, John Bryant picked up his 14th MIAA Coach of the Year award (unanimously chosen) and second of this season. He surpassed the 600-win mark in his 42nd year as a collegiate coach and guided SBU to its 14th MIAA men's title.
