TOPEKA, Kan. -- The SBU Men's and Women's teams each have won the MIAA Tennis Championships.

The women's team defeated Northwest Missouri in the championship match, 5-3, to earn their first MIAA Championship in school history.

The men's team defeated Washburn for the championship, 5-1, to pick up their 14th MIAA Championship and their first since 2005.

SBU's head tennis coach, John Bryant, commented: "Both teams played excellent matches. And I don't believe that either team has 'peaked' yet. We keep improving from week to week - and it looks like we're going to get a chance to keep playing in the NCAA tournament. It was a great effort today. Our women dropped the two of the first three doubles to Northwest, but went to work and fought back in the singles. They just did a super job."
