BOLIVAR, Mo. – The SBU Lady Bearcats opened their MIAA schedule in dramatic form by sweeping Fort Hays in a Saturday afternoon double-header.

SBU’s Ashley Loftis hit a walk-off grand slam in the 5th inning of game one, which gave the Lady Bearcats a ‘run rule’ 10-2 victory. It was SBU’s 2nd consecutive ‘run rule’ win of the season. It was Loftis’ 2nd homer of the game and 3rd HR in two games. Teressa Gomez and Sarah Brison also homered for SBU. Josie Rose picked up the win, which evened her record at 7-7.

SBU won game two, 5-1. Erica Shabbing and Lauren Austin drove in two runs each. Josie Rose was the winning pitcher, moving her record to 8-7. Rose struck out five batters (11 on the day), giving her a season total of 117, only 5 away from Tiffany Homan’s single-season record of 122, set in 2005.

SBU’s record is 9-12, with a 2-0 mark in the MIAA.
