Softball Spilts with Missouri Valley

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The SBU Lady Bearcats split with Missouri Valley (5-7, 10-2) in the final games before their MIAA schedule begins on Saturday.

The Lady Bearcats lost game one, 5-7, in a thrilling, eight-inning contest. The Lady 'Cats held a 1-run lead headed to the final inning, but gave up 3 runs to Missouri Valley in the top half of the 7th. SBU tied the score in with two in the bottom of the seventh, but yielded two runs in the top of the eighth. Josie Rose was charged with the loss in relief, but struck out 8.

SBU won game two, 10-2, in a run-rule, shortened affair. Josie Rose struck out seven more batters, bringing her season total to 106, which is only 16 strikeouts away from Tiffany Holman's single-season record of 122 set in 2005. Rose was the winner, bringing her record to 6-7 on the season. Teressa Gomez, Ashley Loftis, and Sarah Brison all homered in the onslaught of offense.

SBU's record stands at 7-12 on the season as they begin their MIAA schedule tomorrow (Saturday, March 29) against Fort Hays.
