KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Matt Rogers, the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year, earned a first-team State Farm Division II All-South Central Region honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced Tuesday (March 18). Jim Grabowski was a second-team selection.
Rogers averaged 14.9 points (eighth in the MIAA), 7.8 rebounds (fourth in the MIAA) and a league-best 4.95 blocked shots. The 6-foot-10 native of Doniphan, Mo., was second in Division II in blocks entering the regional tournament, was second in the league to fellow unanimous All-MIAA first-team selection Abercrombie in field goal accuracy (56.4 percent).
He blocked at least one shot in all but one game this season, getting a string of 38 games dating back to last season with at least one block snapped when he didn't record one in the conference tournament semifinals.
Grabowski, a 6-foot-7 hometown product of Bolivar, Mo., completed his collegiate career by playing on his second regional qualifying team. He led the SBU Bearcats in scoring (16.3 ppg -- fourth in the MIAA) and three-point goals (2.33 per game -- fourth in the MIAA).
Grabowski also grabbed 7.8 rebounds (fifth in the MIAA) and shot 41.2 percent from three-point range (fifth in the MIAA).
