WARRENSBURG, MO – It took two halves, two overtimes, and a shootout to decide who was going to play for the inaugural MIAA tournament championship on Sunday. In the end, the Lady Bearcats came out on top of Central Missouri to advance to the finals tomorrow in Warrensburg.

After a scoreless 110 minutes, SBU won the shootout 3-1.

SBU’s goalkeeper, Aline Lopes, made 8 saves during regulation and the overtime periods. But it was SBU’s Johanna Olsson who trotted out to guard the net in the shootout. Olsson watched two of three UCM shots sail left. SBU’s Aude Lechat, Dominie Emmanuel, and Darla Zarndt all were successful in their shot attempts.

Head Coach Ben Wade had his players ready for the deciding moment.

“We worked on PKs all week. We knew it might come down to a shootout and we wanted to be as prepared as we could be. I felt like the girls were ready and confident when the time arrived.”

SBU plays Truman State tomorrow (11/4/07) for the MIAA tournament championship.
