JOPLIN, MO — Regulation was not enough time to settle the soccer match between The Lady Bearcats and Missouri Southern. Both teams entered play on Friday tied for fourth in conference play. Southwest Baptist traded blows with Southern and hung tough throughout regulation. MIAA defensive player of the week, Aline Lopes, was big in goal for the Lady Bearcats and the back line worked hard to hold the MIAA offensive player of the week, Nikki Llewellyn, scoreless in the match.

Then in overtime the Lady Bearcats out shot Missouri Southern 6-3. With two and a half minutes left Senior Forward, Atefeh Heivary, put home the game winning shot to give Southwest Baptist the win.

This victory vaults the Lady Bearcats into third place alone in the MIAA pending the rest of this weekends results. The Southwest Baptist University women’s soccer team now controls their own destiny as they have games left against every team ahead of them in the standings. They are on track to meet the preseason goal of making the MIAA postseason tournament.
