WARRENSBURG, MO -- Corey McElaney isn't likely to forget his first race as a head coach.

His men's and women's teams both finished first in the Mule Run hosted by Central Missouri.

SBU men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at Central Missouri University Friday night at 6:20pm.  The men’s race had over 140 runners, while the women’s race had over 100 runners.  Coach McElhaney was very impressed in saying, “I am very proud of both teams tonight, we had some freshman step up and some leadership up front that really impacted the outcome of the race.  I keep emphasizing that these meets are preparation for later in the season.  We give God the glory and go back to work. The thing I was most impressed with was how the teams worked together.  Both teams started together and pulled each other along.  In bigger races this will help tremendously.  I was also impressed on how many parents and family showed up to support SBU we had over 40-50 parents and family show up to support us, that really helps the runners to see so many familiar faces.”

SBU will travel 24 athletes to Missouri Southern next week.  The stampede will start at 9:00 am for the women’s 5k and 9:45 for the men’s 8k. This meet will be a great test to see what we need to work on and give us an idea on how tough the rest of the conference is.  Both races will have 250 -300 runners.
