BOLIVAR, MO -- Luke Folkerts had 3 points tonight.

Only 3.

But the shot that he made covered 75 feet of real estate and produced a roar from the SBU crowd that was louder than the halftime buzzer. Folkerts' shot gave the Bearcats a 41-32 lead and, more importantly, recaptured momentum.

Jason Jemison hit four free throws down the stretch to help the 'Cats to victory.
SBU used that momentum to defeat Washburn, 79-72, and pick up an MIAA win.

Jason Jemison scored 21 (5-6 from the 3-point line). Jared Young added 19 on 8-11 from the field. Jim Grabowski had a well balanced game of 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Matt Rogers added to his MIAA block lead with 3 more.

SBU found their long-ball stroke they had lost against Truman. Tonight, the Bearcats were 45.2% from the field, 38.5% from the arc, and 81.3% from the free throw line. Their defensive intensity produced 18 Washburn turnovers, 8 of which were Bearcat steals.

Of Jared Young's buckets, none were bigger than a trey he made with 50 seconds to play, giving SBU a 75-68 lead. The game turned into clock management at that point for Washburn, and the Bearcats made their clutch free throws for the balance of the contest.

Frank Phifer had 21 for the Ichabods. Andrew Meile added 14.

SBU improves their record to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the MIAA. They travel to Missouri Southern on Saturday (February 10) for a 7:30 scheduled tip-off.
