BOLIVAR, MO -- The #4 Washburn Lady Blues defeated the SBU Lady 'Cats 76-56. Washburn's Corkey Stiger led all scoring with 24. Washburn jumped to an early lead, led by 19 at the half, and won by 20.

SBU's only scorer with double figures was Livia Brito, with 15.

Coach Jim Middleton, after the game: "In the first half, it was 27-17 and we felt like the momentum was going our way. But we threw the ball away twice and the next thing you know we turn around, and they are 16 points up."

Traci Bybee scored 9 points against Washburn.
"Washburn averaged giving up 52 points per game, and we scored 56. We put forth some good defensive effort, we just couldn't sustain it."

"We have 5 games left, and we need to feel a sense of urgency. We need to put this game behind us, and prepare for Missouri Southern. We need to get more consistency, and if we do, we could take 5th place in the conference. Our girls usually shoot 72% from the free throw line, but tonight we only shot 42%. We need to be more consistent. We have two huge ball games coming up. This loss makes them even bigger."

SBU falls to 12-10 overall, and 4-9 in the MIAA. They travel to Missouri Southern on Saturday for a 5:30 tip.
