MARYVILLE, MO -- SBU was defeated by MIAA opponent Northwest Missouri State 49-64.

The SBU Lady 'Cats made three good comebacks tonight. Their third comeback, however, needed to be worth 17 points. It was only worth 10.

In their first two runs, SBU was unable to capitalize on either momentum boost. Northwest quickly answered, both times, and stretched their lead.

The first run began with the Lady 'Cats were down by 11 in the first half, but pulled within 1. The run was capped by an Amber Wheeler 3-pointer with 3:20 to go in the half.

SBU had 12 turnovers in the first half, but went to the locker room trailing by only 3.

Northwest got off to a quick start in the second half, but SBU began their second run, which resulted in SBU's only lead of the game. The game stayed close, and SBU seemed to be taking charge when they tied it, 33-33, on a Livia Brito baseline jumper from 10 out.

But over the next five minutes, Northwest went on a 19-2 run that the Lady 'Cats couldn't overcome.

SBU fought until the final buzzer, pulling within 7 at one point, but found themselves on the losing end by 15.

Brito, for the third consecutive game, led Lady 'Cat scoring. She netted 11 and grabbed 6 rebounds.

SBU came into the game shooting 43.3% from the field, but only shot 31.7% tonight.

SBU's next game is on Tuesday, January 30 at home against Missouri Western. Tipoff is at 5:45 PM.
