Music Competition
The ACSI/SBU CPC will again feature a musical ensemble and soloist competition for high school musicians (grades 9-12 only). The competition will take place on Thursday, November 19th during the afternoon and evening.
The fee for participation in the Music Competition is covered by the $12-per-student fee charged for participation in the Academic Competition. Students in the music competition are strongly encouraged to enter the Academic Competition on Friday as a part of one of their school’s academic teams. If a student is participating ONLY in the Music Competition, the school will need to pay the student’s $12 fee for the Music Competition and to receive the student’s College Preparatory Championships T-shirt.
Organization and adjudication criteria for the Music Competition will be based on the guidelines established by ACSI for official ACSI music events. This information may be reviewed on the ACSI website at http://www.acsi.org/kwscstudentact.
Notes
- The ACSI/SBU Music Competition is part of the "one-fee-pays-all" fee structure for the entire competition. (The fee structures described in the official ACSI guidelines do not apply to the SBU Music Competition.) The $12-per-student fee charged by SBU is the only fee required for participation in any or all of the SBU/ACSI College Preparatory Championships events.
- The SBU Music Competition only includes SOLOS and ENSEMBLES (small, medium, sacred, and contemporary) as defined by ACSI. Large ensembles (choir, band, orchestra) are NOT included in the SBU event.
- Music Competition participants should make particular reference to the following items in the “Event Coordinator Handbook” on the ACSI website:
a. Required Music Selection Sources - do your music selections meet these criteria?
b. All of the Guidelines for the various solo and ensemble categories
c. All of the Adjudication Forms for the various solo and ensemble categories
Note that participating schools are expected to bring all equipment necessary for performance; this includes playback equipment for recorded accompaniments.
There are no pre-determined limits on the number of solos and ensembles each school may enter in the SBU Music Competition. However, SBU reserves the right to request that a school limit the number of entries in order to provide enough opportunities for other schools to enter, if necessary. After the registration deadline, schools will be notified if their number of entries will need to be reduced.
The registration form for the Music Competition may be downloaded and mailed with registration fees, payable to SBU, or faxed to:
