Herb Hamann, 2007 Parkway Distinguished ProfesorDr Herb Hamannhas ben an integral part of the physical therapy programs since the genesis of the master's program in the late 1990's and was a major part of the recent transition to offering the doctoral degree.

Dr. Hamann has been at Southwest Baptist University since 1983, serving the University in a variety of capacities, including associate professor of physical therapy, assistant professor of Health and Physical Education, Internship Coordinator (for atheletic training), athletic trainer and coach. In 1999, Dr. Hamann, after obtaining his physical therapy credentials, joined the faculty in the department of physical therapy. While a part of the physical therapy faculty, Dr. Hamann completed his doctorate (DPT) at Creighton University (May 2002), and he has attained certification as a clinical specialist in sports physical therapy. He is active in research, presenting his results in regional meetings and publishing scholarly work in journals such as Physical Therapy Review. Dr. Hamann is an active member of the Missouri Physical Therapy Association and the Missouri Athletic Training Association. He has served as liaison between these two organizations and as the MPTA Key Contact Person for Congressman Roy Blunt at the Government Affairs Forum in Washington, D.C.

The nomination submission from SBU stated: "Dr. Hamann is one of the finest classroom instructors at SBU. He routinely rates high on student satisfaction surveys and is a role model of Christian behavior. He consistently receives exceptionally high student evalution marks for his teaching. Dr. Hamann constantly strives to improve in both the classroom and in clinical practice."

"Dr. Hamann has served the University in a variety of roles outside the classroom. He has been exceptionally affective as a student advisor and in service to the University. He has served as class advisor to physical therapy classes, given oversight to the pre-physical therapy club, and has worked with the physical therapy recruiter with prospective and current students. He has servd on various departmental, university and Faculty Senate committees, and he has been on a number of faculty search committees, charing at least one of these committees."

"Both on and off campus, Dr. Hamann has been a role model for both faculty and students in living the Christian lifestyle. He is an active member of First Baptist Church, Bolivar, where he serves as deacon and as Sunday school teacher. Dr. Hamann has been active in planning and participating in a variety of medical mission trips. He has led two health-care mission trips to Venezuela guiding and nurturing students to put both their faith and their new profession into action. He is currently establishing new mission opportunities for our students in conjunction with First Baptist Church of Bolivar."
