2007 Faculty Life Beautiful Award
Sherrie Bayer
The designation “life beautiful” is the highest honor a person can receive at Southwest Baptist University. Each year at the employee Christmas banquet, we honor a faculty member who exemplifies a “life beautiful.”
The Faculty Life Beautiful award was established in 1987 through a generous gift from an anonymous donor. To be eligible for the faculty life beautiful award, a faculty member must have been employed at SBU for four consecutive years, have full-time faculty status and teach a minimum of six hours per semester during the academic year. Full-time faculty vote for the Faculty Life Beautiful award through a balloting process coordinated by the provost’s office.
This year’s recipient, Mrs. Sherrie Bayer, has been a full-time member of SBU's faculty since June of 2002. She has been very involved at First Baptist Church of Bolivar duirng her years at SBU. She has worked with college students and children, and led several mission trips.
Bayer has a bachelor's degree from Dallas Baptist College, and Master of Science in education from SBU. She has been a teacher since 1977, and has taught students of all ages, from kindergarten classes to adult education classes.
Bayer is described by her colleagues as a friend who always listens, and one who prays for and encourages her coworkers daily. One of her colleagues said, "She demonstrates Christ's love in many ways. Her kindness and compassion are evident in how she relates to students, coworkers, family, and friends. She is always willing to sacrifice her time and enegry to benefit those around her. She consistently invests in those she comes in contact with. She provides me with an outstanding example of how to serve others."
She and her husband, Bing have 4 boys: Brett, Matt, Scott, Ryan.
