Quality Advantage of SBU Accounting!
We are part of the College of Business and Computer Science (COBACS) at Southwest Baptist University and this College has earned special accreditation from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Other examples of SBU Accounting’s excellence include the following:
-
SBU Accounting graduates get jobs in their field and qualify for graduate school: Since the May 2000 class, all SBU Accounting graduates except one have graduated with accounting/finance-related jobs “in hand” (or within 3 months of graduating) or have been immediately accepted into graduate MBA programs (as desired). Click here to see where some are employed.
-
SBU Accounting graduates achieve professional certification success: Approximately 50% of SBU’s Accounting graduates are CPAs and 70% of these graduates who began taking the exam have passed the 4-part monster. SBU’s “first-time pass rate” exceeds the national average.
-
SBU Accounting and COBACS students have regularly exceeded the national average on business college assessment exams for graduating seniors and achieved the TOP ranking in Spring, 2006.
-
SBU Accounting is more personal than larger school programs. Our small class sizes in your Accounting major (usually 10-12) allow us to get to know you very well and help you succeed in the classroom. In fact, we have the time and flexibility to personalize your classes by using “oral-type” exams on occasion--- “one-on-one” oral testing with the professor enhances your “thinking on your feet” and communication skills.
-
SBU Accounting Faculty advise you personally. During your first year at SBU, special “freshman advisers” help you with course schedules. For all remaining years, an Accounting Faculty member will assist you in making sure you are “on track” to achieve the degree you want in the time frame you desire. In fact, if we know you are interested in Accounting before you start at SBU, we WILL create for you a “personalized” 4-year plan that lays out what classes you need to take each semester at SBU.
-
SBU Accounting Alumni help you prepare for your accounting/financial career through our Alumni & Student Mentoring Program.
-
SBU Accounting students have the flexibility to earn their “150 hours” during 4 years at SBU. Employers we talk to (especially CPA firms) are interested in you being ready to sit for the CPA exam by having earned your 150 hours---- you can use SBU’s unique January-term to help achieve this.
-
SBU Accounting Students focus on ethical issues throughout their time at SBU. The COBACS has a core theme based on Psalm 15 that includes eight characteristics to learn and live by: Integrity, Service, Respect, Charity, Faithfulness, Truthfulness, Humility, and Perseverance. Your character “sets you apart” when you begin interviewing for jobs in the business world.
