Reason for Nomination: Pearl was nominated by her professors at SBU. The Accounting Department Chair, Wayne Clark, CPA, said, "Pearl is an appropriate 'LEAP Student of the Month' for many reasons. Her extremely strong academic record, varied school involvement, and real-life accounting experiences has prepared her very well for an outstanding accounting career. Pearl enjoys thinking problems through thoroughly; she doesn't just try to 'get by' with a quick response or answer."

In addition, she has lived much of her life in China, and speaks Mandarin Chinese fluently. Pearl hopes to use her language diversity to acquire a great accounting opportunity at a CPA firm or company with a strong international presence.

She already has two successful internships behind her. One at Bolivar R-1 School District, Bolivar, Missouri in the accounting department. The other was at J&R Tax Service, Atlantic, Iowa. This summer Pearl has secured an internship with The Heritage Foundation, which is a research and educational institution.

Pearl's current GPA is 3.94. She will graduate from SBU in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and international business.
