ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT UPDATE
May, 2006
Each graduating class in the College of Business and Computer Science
(COBACS) completes an “assessment” exam their last semester (fall
or spring--- more graduates in the spring).  This nationally-created and
administered “Major Field Assessment Test” (MFAT) was given to 110,000
"business" college seniors Spring, 2006 at 513 institutions nationwide.
SBU COBACS Seniors "Did It Again!"  They achieved the highest
ranking possible by "testing" at the 95th percentile level--and SBU
accounting majors finished 1st, 3rd, 5th, & 7th among SBU test takers.
The relative ranking of the SBU College of
Business and Computer Science graduates for the last five assessment
exams is shown in the table below.  For example, a 90th percentile ranking
means that SBU graduates ranked “at or above” 90% of the business
graduates taking the exam.
Semester of MFAT Exam Percentile Rank of SBU Graduates
May, 2006         95%
December, 2005       90%
May, 2005         90%
December, 2004       90%
