Robert Kitchin
Robert W. Kitchin joined the Southwest Baptist University faculty in 1984. He has served 21 years as chairman of the department of chemistry and physics and holds the rank of professor. He received his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from Mississippi State University, where he studied chemistry as an undergraduate and physical chemistry in his doctoral work.
Dr. Kitchin is a dedicated and caring teacher and has earned the respect of his fellow faculty members as well as the students. He is a past president of the SBU Faculty Senate and continues to be a leader in faculty governance. Dr. Kitchin always is willing to go above and beyond to help students and his co-workers. He demonstrates diligence and excellence in all of his responsibilities.
Instrumental in the development of the dual-credit relationships of SBU and the area high schools, Dr. Kitchin also played an integral role in the development of SBU’s current general education curriculum. In addition, he has authored several original laboratory manuals currently in use at SBU and has helped in the development and support of the undergraduate research activities in the College of Science and Mathematics.
Dr. Kitchin and his wife, Ann, also a member of the SBU faculty, are active members of First Baptist Church of Bolivar. They have a son, Jonathan, daughter-in-law, Renae, and a granddaughter, Chloe.
