2005 Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher
Dwight Haun
Dr. Dwight Haun is the 2005 recipient of the Orien B. Hendrex Distinguished Teacher Award. This award is presented annually to a faculty member who has been judged by the previous three years ’ and current year ’ s graduating classes to be outstanding in teaching ability and personal guidance. The Board of Trustees at Southwest Baptist University has designated this award in memory of former academic dean Orien B. Hendrex.
Prior to coming to SBU in 1998, Dr. Haun taught junior high and middle school math. Currently, he teaches in the Lewis E. Schollian College of Education and Social Sciences, and holds the rank of assistant professor of education.
Dr. Haun earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Southwest Baptist College in 1981. In 1990, he completed a master ’ s of education degree from Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU). Also, he earned an Ed.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in educational leadership and policy analysis in 2003.
In 1981, Dr. Haun married Verna (Case) Haun, SBU class of ‘ 81. They have two sons, Kendall and Grant. The Hauns are members of First Baptist Church in Bolivar.
