2005 Faculty Life Beautiful Award
Bob Glasgow
The designation “life beautiful” is the highest honor a person can receive at Southwest Baptist University. Each year at spring commencement, we honor two graduating seniors who are chosen by the faculty as best exemplifying a “life beautiful.” And, each year at the employee Christmas banquet, we honor a faculty member and a staff member who exemplify a “life beautiful.”
The Faculty Life Beautiful award was established in 1987 through a generous gift from an anonymous donor. To be eligible for the faculty life beautiful award, a faculty member must have been employed at SBU for four consecutive years, have full-time faculty status and teach a minimum of six hours per semester during the academic year. Full-time faculty vote for the Faculty Life Beautiful award through a balloting process coordinated by the provost’s office.
This year’s recipient, Dr. Bob Glasgow, has been a member of SBU's faculty since 1989. He has been involved in his local church during his years at SBU. He has been in leadership roles as Sunday school teacher, pastor search committee co-chairman, and outreach leader.
He is the son of a bivocational Southern Baptist pastor. He demonstrates sound, Biblical principles in his life and is respected for offering Godly advice to friends and colleagues. He is a leader among the deacons at FBC Bolivar because of his leadership ability and solid-Christlike conduct.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University, a master’s degree from Pittsburg State University, and a Ph.D from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
His leadership has allowed SBU to be first among Missouri’s private colleges and universities in production of mathematics teachers for high school and middle school. Some of our elementary education majors come in very scared of mathematics, and he does a fantastic job of calming their fears and teaching them so they can go out to be a positive influence for mathematics in the elementary schools where they will teach.
His personal ethic is without question. One SBU colleague and friend of this faculty member says that he has known him for more than 16 years but has never known him to misrepresent any circumstance or do anything that would dishonor his Lord. Even during difficult times, he always behaves in a Christ-like manner.
He and his wife, Betty, have two daughters, Melody and Alyssa.
