William Brown came to SBU in fall 1980 to teach Piano as a member of the faculty of the Geneva Casebolt College of Music, Arts and Letters. From 1991-2009 he served the Casebolt College as dean. In the fall of 2009 he was appointed acting provost and was named provost at SBU in December 2009.
Prior to coming to SBU, Brown was on the faculty of the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University from 1974-78 and the American Conservatory in Chicago from 1978-80. A native of El Dorado, Ark., he has a B.M. in piano performance from Baylor University (1969), and an M.M. (1969) and a D.M. (1979) from Indiana University where he studied with famed pianist, Menahem Pressler. Brown’s book, Menahem Pressler: Artistry in Piano Teaching, is published by Indiana University Press.
Brown and his wife Kathy have been married 32 years. They have two children and one grandchild.
