Need-based grants

Need based grants are based on your financial need.  These grants require no repayment.  SBU-Salem Campus has PELL grants available which are awarded by the federal government to students.

Loans

Students can take advantage of numerous loan opportunities which require repayment, typically six months following graduation.  Loans for students are available through the federal government regardless of credit history or current finances.  Parents may also borrow through the federal government or through private lenders provided that they qualify.

To receive any federal grants or loans for which you may qualify, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. SBU's recommended deadline for completing the FAFSA is March 15 for the following academic year.

Outside scholarships

SBU encourages applying for outside scholarships to enhance your financial aid package.  These funds are awarded directly to the student from sources outside of SBU (community, company, private agencies, etc.).
