Elementary Bank Savings: In this project, SIFE members teach third graders at Polk County Christian School financial literacy with an emphasis on savings. Through a partnership with the Bank of Bolivar, the students are given an opportunity to open their own savings account. They have the opportunity to deposit money in their accounts when the SIFE team visits every Friday afternoon to collect the students’ weekly savings.

Tech Training: SIFE is working with the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce to assist local business leaders’ in the usage of Microsoft Excel 2007.

Dollars and Sense: SIFE members present ethical dilemmas to teams of junior and senior high school students representing mock companies. These companies then make or lose money depending on their solutions to the ethical problems. SIFE members also judge students at a regional FBLA competition in Springfield, MO.

Budgeting: SIFE hosts a seminar to teach college students and community members the basics and benefits of budgeting.

Ethical Primary: At this event, professors from different academic departments offer their insight into current ethical situations faced by governments. Students and audience members then have a chance to ask the panelists questions and foster discussion.

Enterprise City: SIFErs spend three days teaching business concepts to sixth graders and then take the students on a trip to the Springfield Discovery Center, where the students put their knowledge into action by paying bills, opening checking accounts, spending their income, and participating in basic city operations.

Ongoing Projects
Geared for Ghana: In this project, SIFE members from Southwest Baptist work with the SIFE team at the University of Ghana to teach women in their country basic business principles.

Alpha House Ministries: The SIFE team works with women to teach them resume skills, interviewing skills, and other job skills these women need to get back on their feet in the community.

Blower Door: This project focuses on the importance of energy efficiency in the Bolivar community.

Going Green: This project emphasizes the importance of recycling, especially on the SBU campus. Bins are set up around campus to discard paper products and cans. These bins are then taken to local recycling centers.

Small Business Project: In this project a team of SIFE members helps local entrepreneurs and businesspeople market their products. A new product the team will be marketing this year is a shelter for motorcycles.

Suit Yourself: SIFE will facilitate a “suit market” where donated suits will be sold very cheaply to students and community members in need of professional wear.
