SBU’s chapter of the National Delta Mu Delta Honor Society inducts new members

BOLIVAR, MO – SBU’s Zeta Kappa Chapter of the National Delta Mu Delta (DMD) Honor Society inducted 14 new members in a ceremony held Monday, Nov. 9, 2009. Presiding over the induction were the 2009-2010 chapter officers: President Rebekah Wright, Vice-President Kim Steinkruger, Secretary Kari Mooney, and Treasurer Laura Freeman. Dr. Ronda Credille, Professor of Business Administration, is the chapter’s faculty advisor.

Symphonic Winds to present works by Mendelssohn, Biebl, Shostakovich, and Reed

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University Music Department presents the Symphonic Winds in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Works by Mendelssohn, Biebl, Shostakovich, and Reed are featured by the 54-member ensemble. The free public performance will be held at Pike Auditorium in the Mabee Chapel on the SBU campus in Bolivar.

SBU Library Receives Historical Gift

BOLIVAR, MO – The Southwest Baptist University archives recently received a significant piece of history. Tom Haines, a retired university library developer from Oklahoma City, donated historical materials belonging to his great-grandfather, Reverend John Williamson Haines, an early trustee of the school.

SBU Jazz Ensemble to perform standards and contemporary jazz tunes

BOLIVAR, MO – The SBU department of music is proud to present the Jazz Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17 in the Meyer Recital Hall in the Geneva Casebolt Music Center on the main campus of SBU. The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Waters, professor of music and acting dean of the Casebolt College of Music, Arts and Letters.

Bolivar Campus Update, November 9, 2009

Mrs. Nancy Hodges, SBU's Director of Health Services stated, "During the week of November 1 through November 7, 2009 there were only two students (down from nine the previous week) seen with a fever over 100 and exhibiting flu symptoms.” Most students seen at The Health Center were exhibiting symptoms of a stomach virus, sinusitis, or strep throat.

Bolivar Campus Update November 2, 2009

According to SBU's Director of Health Services, Nancy Hodges, "During the week of October 25-31, 2009 there were nine students seen with fever over 100 and exhibiting flu symptoms. Only one student tested positive for Influenza A. SBU Chamber Orchestra to perform concert Nov 3

BOLIVAR, MO – The public is invited to attend a free concert featuring the Southwest Baptist University Chamber Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12. The concert will be presented in Meyer Recital Hall in the Geneva Casebolt Music Center on the Bolivar campus. Dr. Brian K. Hopwood, director of instrumental studies and assistant professor of music will conduct.

SBU Joins Top 15 in U.S. Mid-Central Region Battle of the Brains

BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University’s top competitive programming team grabbed a spot among the top 15 teams in the U.S Mid-Central Region (Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee) on Saturday, Oct. 24 as a part of the IBM-Sponsored International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). The team, composed of Jacob Williams (Senior, Hume, Mo.), Andrew Cook (Senior, Kansas City, Mo.), and Aaron Meyer (Senior, Springfield, Mo.) completed five of nine problems in 290 minutes to claim the second highest finish in school history. SBU’s second and third teams finished in 30th and 37th place, respectively, in the field of 140 teams.

Six of these were tested, three of which tested positive for Flu A.
