BOLIVAR, MO –Southwest Baptist University Professor of Music Renee Waters recently attended the Society of Composers Region VI Conference in Huntsville, Texas, April 16-19, 2008. Her original composition, “Agnus Dei” (for mixed chorus, piano and soprano saxophone), was selected for a feature performance at the conference, and was performed by the Sam Houston State University Concert Choir on April 17.
“Agnus Dei” is one of two original works written by Waters for the SBU Italy Choir Tour in 2003. The composition was given its world premiere by members of the SBU Chorale in Pietrasanta, Italy, on June 7, 2003.
The Society of Composers, Inc. is a professional society dedicated to the promotion of composition, performance, understanding and dissemination of new and contemporary music. Members of the society include composers and performers both in and outside of academia interested in addressing concerns for national and regional support of compositional activities.
