BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University’s “Praeclarus” and Jazz Ensemble will present a joint spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 in Meyer Recital Hall on the SBU main campus in Bolivar. The joint concert is free and open to the public.

The name “Praeclarus” originates from the Latin word meaning “remarkable” or “clear.” This men’s chamber vocal ensemble highlights the unique character of male voices through a repertoire that covers art song, contemporary, ethnic, and gospel origins in a mainly a cappella format.  “Praeclarus” consists of students Bryan McDonald, Chris Andrews, Kaleb Brosseau, Adam Keller, Joel Schilb, Caleb McLaughlin, and Tad Griffin.  The group is under the direction of Dr. Jim Tarrant, director of choral studies at SBU.

The SBU Jazz Ensemble will feature music for the classic 17-piece big-band instrumental ensemble and will include settings of such familiar tunes as “My Buddy” and “Just a Closer Walk,” as well as other contemporary swing, Latin, and funk-flavored compositions for big band and jazz combo.  The student ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Jeffery Waters, SBU professor of music.
