BOLIVAR, MO – Southwest Baptist University’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter won 27 top-three finishes at the 49th Annual Missouri Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held in Jefferson City March 28-29. The conference featured competitive events for individuals and teams and the election of state officers for next year.
Twenty-one students participated in the competition and eleven students and Rhonda Agee, PBL advisor, attended this conference.
“I am proud to report that our competitive results were, once again, impressive. Our students entered a total of twenty events and captured 27 top-three finishes (the most of any school participating). We won first place in nine events; second place in twelve events; and six third- place finishes were earned. SBU also received a fifth place chapter award for largest membership in the state with 30 members,” said Agee.
Competitors achieving first or second place in their events are automatically qualified to represent Missouri at the National Leadership Conference June 21-24 in Atlanta, GA.
Attendance at this year’s conference was approximately 170, representing 16 PBL chapters at post-secondary institutions throughout Missouri, including University of Missouri-Columbia, Truman State University, Evangel University, and Drury University.
The keynote speaker for the event was Andrew McCrea, motivational speaker and host of The American Countryside, a syndicated radio program. He spoke on “Leadership in Action,” this year’s conference theme.
Phi Beta Lambda is an educational association of postsecondary student members preparing for careers in business. There are over 11,000 active members in the U.S. Missouri has more than 25 chapters with over 500 members.
