Professional Activities: Laura Compton is a two time Metropolitan Opera National Council district winner and Regional finalist. During her graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, Ms. Compton performed many roles including Hansel in Hansel & Gretel, Mrs. P in Michael Nyman’s The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat, and Octavian in scenes of Der Rosenkavalier. She also championed many 20th-century works including Luciano Berio’s Folksongs and John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs.

Ms. Compton has worked extensively with opera legend Marilyn Horne and spent several summers in residence with Ms. Horne at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara California where she performed the role of Dorabella in Così fan Tutte. She was also a member of the Tulsa Opera Young Artist Apprenticeship Program in 2002-2003, and was one of a select number of performers to study at the esteemed Académie Musicale de Villecroze in Nice, France.

In 2006 Ms. Compton sang at Carnegie Hall for the Marilyn Horne series ‘The Song Continues’ and then went on to place fourth in the international Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria.

Educational and Professional Background: Ms. Compton holds the Bachelor of music Education degree from Southwest Baptist University and a Master of Music degree in voice performance from the University of Oklahoma. She keeps and active recital and ensemble schedule and is currently is instructor of voice and director of opera studies at Southwest Baptist University.
