Welcome to the website for the Department of Language and Literature at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.  Through the following pages, you will get a look at our faculty, programs, courses, and special offerings.  Also, please take a moment to read our institutional mission statement, for the goals that you find articulated there are those that drive the Department of Language and Literature as it educates students in the department's general-education sequence and major courses.

Identifying a college home and a major field of study can be difficult because so many factors come to play in the decision, such as cost of the program and location of the institution.  We suggest that you also give careful thought to the way an institution and a major "fit" your personality and interests.  If you hope some day to do advanced studies in graduate school, law school or seminary, or if you plan a career in business, media or education, the majors in our department can help you develop the literacy skills and literary and language knowledge that you will need to succeed.

Furthermore, if you want a college home and major department that take seriously the integration of faith and learning, look our way.  We do not approach the study of English and the modern languages from a secular perspective, for we believe that the pre-eminence of Christ should inform our understanding of humankind and its cultures.
