Technical Support - SBU Dial Up

Background
Since the fall semester of 1996, SBU has provided dial-up access to the Internet for its students, faculty, and staff. Much has happened since then, and usage has recently outstripped the existing equipment.

SBU has installed two T1 lines to provide the needed bandwidth for a whole new bank of modems and dorm network. There are now 48 modems available, all capable of the V.90 56K speed standard. For new users of SBU's dial-up, you should find this to be an easy, fast hookup to the Internet.

This service does NOT provide access to the applications available to users in the computer labs and offices. Instead, this allows users to have access to the World Wide Web (WWW) and their e-mail, using a personal computer equipped with a modem.

Instructions:
The phone number to call for the Internet dial-up is 326-3342. To make a connection you will need a personal computer with a modem and access to a working phone line. The specifics of what is needed for various operating systems are covered in the areas shown in the dial-up menu below. The basic goal regardless of platform is to make a PPP (Point to Point Protocol) connection.
The account information you use on campus for computer and network access (username and password) is what you will use for dial-up authentication.
