Prior to coming to SBU, Kimball spent 13 years teaching computer science and mathematics in Kansas City area high schools. He began teaching at SBU in 2005. Kimball teaches courses in the areas of computer science, interface and interaction design, discrete mathematics, systems analysis and design, and numerical analysis. His primary areas of research interest focus on issues of human-computer interaction and software development.

Community involvement: Kimball attends Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. He is also a vocal performer in sketches for “Wednesday Night at the Esquire” at First Baptist Church, Bolivar.

Why did you choose to teach at SBU? “God clearly led me here, since teaching college was never a career goal of mine. It was a chance to return to my alma mater, a place that has meant much to me personally, professionally, and spiritually. I am humbled that I can contribute to SBU’s tradition of quality Christian education.”

What sets SBU apart from other universities? “It is truly a community of Christ-centered believers. When I was a student here, I remember my professors valued me as an individual and invested in me both academically and spiritually. It is a place that challenges one to grow in faith as well as academic knowledge.”

What advice do you have for prospective students? “Embrace the opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities and ministries. Get to know your professors. Be organized. Avoid procrastinating in your academic work.”

What is your favorite thing to do in Bolivar/Southwest Missouri? “In Bolivar, one must visit Dunnegan Park. In Springfield, one must eat at Lambert’s to experience the “throwed rolls”. In Southwest Missouri, one must go to Silver Dollar City. And in all places, always find time to cheer for the Kansas City Royals!”
