Q: “Does SBU’s CCTC program offer a complete distance degree (external degree)?” – W. Tate
A: SBU’s CCTC program does not offer such a degree. What we offer is variety of 1000-4000 level self-pace print and web-based undergraduate courses.
Q: “How long do I have to complete my course?” – S. Brunell
A: Your CCTC course may last as long as 6 months. If you do not complete your course within 6 months, you have the option to extend your course for an additional 3 months (for a fee).
Q: “Will I have any contact with my instructor?” – R. Lewis
A: While you are working though your are self-paced course, you will have e-mail access (primary) and phone (secondary) access to your instructor.
Q: “How do I take my exams?” – J. Mattera
A: Successfully. Right? OK. Some courses have print exams; some courses have online exams. Generally you will take exams at SBU, with an authorized proctor or online. To discover what a course specifies please see course syllabi briefs at Courses
Q: “Should I buy my texts before you send me my course materials?” – J. Brown
A: We ask that you do not do this. Please wait to purchase your texts unit after you receive and review your course materials.
Q: “I am a current SBU student. Do I really need to have my advisor’s signature on the enrollment form?” – B. Taylor
A: Yes…you really do.
Q: “My friend says taking a self-paced distance course requires a lot of self-discipline. Is that true?” – A. Turner
A: Yes. And add to self-discipline – time. You really need adequate time to have a successful experience. You truly need to be able to manage your time and course requirements effectively. We require a minimum of 8 weeks to complete a 3 credit hour course.
